New Owen Clarke Class 40's sailing together in the UK

Cinnamon Girl (Cian McCarthy) and 40 Degrees (Peter Harding), the first two Owen Clarke/Clay Oliver third generation Class 40's have been working up out of the Hamble in the UK this weekend. 40 Degrees completed its 90 degree test and measurement last week and 'sistership' Cinnamon Girl is set to undertake her measurement in a few days.

After that, both boats will set out independently at the end of the week on their 1000 mile qualifying passages for the upcoming transatlantic races, the Solidaire du Chocolat (40 Degrees) and the Transat Jacques Vabres (Cinnamon Girl).

Fundamentally the two yachts are sisterships sharing the same hull, appendage, structural engineering and rig design. They were however built at two different yards, Cinnamon Girl as a custom one off yacht by Stig McDonald in the UK and this, the second 40 Degrees as a semi-custom production version built again at Jaz Marine in South Africa.

Whilst sharing the same pedigree the two boats differ in some of the choices made by their owners including:

Cinnamon Girl 40 Degrees
Cockpit Six winches, twin companionway Four winches single companionway
Coachroof Halyards run in central tunnel Halyards run in side deck tunnels
Bowsprit Fixed and a spinaker pole Rotating
Bulkheads Two watertight bulkheads Third Cat 0 bulkhead midships
Upwind sails Hanked on solent with reef Furling solent and staysail
Off-wind sails Upwind Code 0 + fractional reacher Masthead reacher
