The Owen Clarke Design Class 40 'Red' takes class victory.

From the same yard that built both Alex Bennett's 'Fujifilm' and the US based 'Dragon' another hard won victory ensued though in less than the warm climate that many of us in the UK are currently experiencing, our more Northern European neighbours prefer their sailing a bit cooler....................

In the owners words.

'Dear friends,

Red won the prestigious Pantaenius Round Skagen Race in the Class 40. It was a wet and rough upwind course against up to 35 knots towards the north western tip of Denmark. It could have been sheer fun if not for the awful temperatures: Six to Nine degrees air, around eight degrees water. Half of the fleet retired, one crew had to be rescued from their sinking boat.
After a hot meal to warm everybody up we fired down in broad reaching conditions towards Skagen and later Kiel. At the end we had to fight with increasingly tricky light wind conditions in the Store Belt between the Danish islands. The whole trip - 540 miles - took us two days and 19 hours.

We look forward to the Class 40 worlds in Spain.'

No doubt they will find the climate more favourable and the competition as hot in Spain!
