Artforms arrives in Plymouth |
| Wednesday, 28 April 2004 |
| Kip Stone sailed into Plymouth from New Zealand after leaving the Azores where his brother Nathaniel joined the singlehanded sailor six days ago. They motored past Plymouth's maritime Icon 'The Hoe’ in front of which Kip will sail alone in 35 days time when he starts the Transat singlehanded race to Boston USA . Onboard his Owen Clarke designed Open 50 he'll be racing alongside solo sailing greats such as Mike Golding, Yves Parlier, and Roland Jourdain in the first race of his singlehanded career.
The arrival in Plymouth is the penultimate step in Kip’s 14-year dream to compete in one of the classic single-handed yacht races. That dream began standing on the dock in Newport Rhode Island in 1990, staring at the starters in that year's BOC race. Artforms, a company that Kip founded is sponsoring his yacht as part of a world wide marketing strategy for the promotion and selling of his company's product - T shirts and T shirt designs.
