Hexagon arrived in Newport Rhode Island with barely a week to spare before having to set off back again across the North Atlantic, Graham Dalton's shore team and a crew from Southern Spars had their work cut out to step a new mast and turn round the yacht in time for the Prologue event down to New York on the 12th September. They made it however and on Sunday Hexagon started on it's long journey around the world, with tens of thousands of children following her skipper's adventures as part of HSBC's education initiative. If you're the kind of person who's cynical about education and charity links to sailing or sport in general and think it's a gimmick to get money out of sponsors. Think again and check out the educational and charity website at http://www.education.hsbc.com/education/ At the time of writing, 36 hours into the event, Hexagon and Bobst Group are leading the fleet with a gap of twenty miles to the next yacht, Thierry Dubois's, Solidaire. Positions at 23.52 UTC Monday 16th September DTF = distance to finish (UK) in miles DTL = Distance to leader in miles Name DTF DTL Bobst Group 2604m 0m Hexagon 2606m 2m Solidaires 2627m 23m Ocean Planet 2644m 40m Garnier 2662m 58m Tiscali 2672m 68m Pindar 2674m 70m We'll be following Graham's race around but for regular reports and some excellent writing by Brian Hancock, check out the official race site at: www.aroundalone.com/raceviewer/ and for the sailors the HSBC race website is at: www.education.hsbc.com/race/
