Hexagon moves into 3rd at 19 kts average!

Tuesday, 24 September 2002
A broken main halyard and other technical problems has seen the Owen Clarke design open 60 Hexagon slip from second to fifth place in the Around Alone during the last week. In the last 24 hours Graham Dalton has staged a gritty and determined recovery averaging 18.9 knots over one 5 hour period to position himself again in the top three. The HSBC sponsored yacht is expected in Torquay, England at the weekend and hopefully will avoid any further misfortune such as the dismasting that caused it’s late arrival in the USA. Race organisers have subjected Dalton to a time penalty of 60 hours, effectively placing him at the back of the fleet whatever the outcome of the leg. The present leader is race favourite Bernard Stamm, some 60 miles ahead of Vendee Globe veteran Thierry Dubois. http://www.education.hsbc.com/ http://www.aroundalone.com/
