Hexagon official launch in London

Wednesday, 03 July 2002
Graham Dalton’s HSBC sponsored Open 60 Hexagon was officially launched in London on July 1st by HSBC Chairman Sir John Bond. In attendance were Dame Mary Richardson, Chief Executive of the HSBC Education Trust and the event was given a New Zealand flavour when they received a traditional greeting from a group of Maori dancers. The official party was joined by schoolchildren from a number of schools in the area that have signed up to the HSBC education program. This initiative is one which is worldwide, reaching hopefully millions of young people and encouraging them to follow Graham on the race and learn about many subjects (such as geography, biology, the environment) via an interactive website. In the UK alone 25,000 schools have received a starter pack explaining the project which is being sponsored by the HSBC Education Trust. The yacht herself arrived in Zeebrugge by ship and will now spend around three to four weeks in the UK before being sailed single-handed to Newport, RI, USA. There she will be pulled out of the water for a short refit prior to the start of the Around Alone in New York on September 16th. Six pages of photographs and commentary appear on the MadForSailing website, including an in-depth review of the yacht undertaken by journalist James Boyde For more information:- http://www.grahamdalton.hsbc.com http://www.madforsailing.com
