Hexagon takes good start on leg 4

Sunday, 09 February 2003
The start of leg 4 of Around Alone was in more wind that forecast - around 15 knots. After a most enjoyable stopover, the start was an equal success with Derek Hatfield pulling his normal first across the line stunt, but quickly overhauled by local competitor Graham Dalton who was a country mile ahead of the rest of the class one boats.
However just after the first mark Bernard Stamm had the bit between his teeth and one of the first to unroll his genniker overhauled Dalton's Hexagon just after passing the first mark off Tauranga beach. Thierry Dubois' Solidaires and Emma Richards' Pindar were in hot pursuit.
