Laying up open 50 at McConaghy`s |
| Sunday, 15 September 2002 |
What we can see here from the latest pictures supplied by McConaghy Yachts is the black exterior skin of unidirectional carbon inside a split centreline wooden mould. The members of the build team are applying an adhesive film to the deck area of the mould prior to the Nomex hull and deck being put in place. Once the jigsaw pattern of Nomex is in the mould it will be subjected to vaccuum and heated to melt the solid glue film, sticking the Nomex panels to this outer skin.
The process of cutting out the Nomex and glueing it down will take approximately two weeks because of the complex shapes involved. Check out this website for further developments and explanations regarding the construction of this high tech. racing yacht.
