Mike Golding's new Open 60, Ecover, is nearing completion at Southern Ocean Marine, Tauranga, New Zealand. Mike arrived this week with members of his team, to join Owen Clarke's project manager, Martin Carter and designer Merfyn Owen, in supervising the final fit out of the yacht and the construction of the mast
The yacht's bulb has been cast and the keel and hydraulics arrive next week at the yard. Once completed, Ecover will be transported by road the 200km to Auckland, where the keel will be fitted. On completion of this stage the mandatory IMOCA 180 degree righting test will be completed in the Viaduct Basin. The following day will see the rig stepped and the 90 degree pull down test completed soon after.
