Mini Transat Sailor turns to Class 40 |
| Wednesday, 18 January 2006 |
| Out of the same hull and deck mould as Jonathan Crinion’s new racing yacht already under construction, the next Class 40 is scheduled to launch at the end of June. Ian will be sailing back from Cape Town to shakedown the new boat and get qualified for the Route Du Rhum. After his arrival in Europe Ian will be using the yacht to promote Benton’s Bolands Mill Wharf, Dublin. Bolands Mill is a 300million euro, 400,000 square foot development in Dublin’s historic Grand Canal Dock. The stunning mixed use development has a proposed 24 storey tower of high end commercial offices surrounded by beautifully restored listed buildings containing apartments, an art gallery, crèche and restaurant.
With a possible attempt on the around Ireland single handed record as well Ian comments “I am very excited to be part of this project and with the support of my friends at Benton I am looking forward to a full- on sailing season culminating in the 2006 Route Du Rhum”
In addition to his recent global race with Team Daedalus, Ian has previous experience of sailing in the Mini Transat and associated Mini events in a self built Owen Clarke Design mini which should stand him in good stead for taming this new Class 40 racing yacht. Owen Clarke Design are pleased to have Ian on board sailing one of these new and exciting race boats for the 2006 season. ‘Ian is one of those special breed of sailors who goes out there and gets the job done whatever the circumstances’.
