New supercruiser design, OC 105 - Paragon |

| The emphasis for the design of Paragon has been on fun and relaxation with
a
turn of speed. Weight saving is kept to sensible, but not extreme levels to
provide the exhilaration for regatta racing in the Caribbean and
Mediterranean.
Principal Dimensions
LOA - 31.5m
Draft - 3.5m-5.5m
Lwl - 29.5m
Disp - 75,000kg
SA - 530 sq m
Construction will be in carbon/kevlar on a nomex/foam core with five watertight bulkheads and sacrificial bow zone.
On deck the cockpit is divided in to an aft lounging area, central shallow working cockpit and an alfresco lounge/diner. The main decks are teak laid with flush fit hatches and retractable mooring cleats, all control lines are lead in under deck conduits.
The design brief called for a powerful yet easily handled rig by a crew of four; the 42.5m carbon mast is 7/8th fractionally rigged with four spreaders, running back stays and non-overlapping headsails. Spinnaker and reaching sails are set on a 2.5m retractable bowsprit. The main boom incorporates the hydraulic controlled mainsail furling and cockpit awning for relaxed and sheltered dining. Upwind sail area is 530 sq m.
Performance under power is provided for by a 350hp Caterpillar diesel engine with direct shaft drive giving a cruising speed of 11knots.
An auxiliary generator of 22kw provides the backup power requirements. All the features which have become the norm on a vessel of this size are hydraulic powered including sail controls, keel lift, anchoring, retractable bowthruster and tender launch/recovery system.
The lifting fin keel is of stainless steel construction with a 25 tonne lead bulb. The draft can be reduced from 5.5m to 3.5m. Twin wheel steering via Vectran cable drives a high aspect ratio single rudder.
Owen Clarke Design has worked closely with the client to provide an interior that has an understated elegance with a contemporary edge.
The cabins have been laid out with owner’s suite and guest cabins aft and crew quarters, including separate crew diner, forward.
The raised level main saloon area spans the full width of the hull and incorporates guest lounge, dining area and DVD cinema. The yachts main machinery is fitted in the space below the raised sole
The navigation/communications area is centrally located behind the sweeping companionway staircase. A small concession to our open class roots has been the addition of canting Satcom and radar antennas fitted to the front of the mast.
Design work is well underway on this exciting new project, and Owen Clarke Design are now preparing the build tender documentation.
