Second Owen Clarke Design Class 40 crosses equator.

Saturday, 29 July 2006
Hot on the heels of Jonathan Crinion's Class 40 is Ian Munslow’s, Bolands Mill which is steaming north onboard a container ship bound for Sheerness, where she will arrive on the 2nd August. Bolands Mill is also one of the forty class and was launched very briefly in Cape Town earlier this month before being motored round to the commercial port where she was immediately loaded for the UK.

Construction of the yacht was completed at Jaz Marine one month after her predecessor, with Ian Munslow a boat builder and mini transat sailor from the UK present for much of her build. On arrival in the UK her mast will be stepped by a rigger from Southern Spars, South Africa and the boat will be rigged for the first sail round the south coast to the Solent. Ian will base himself here for a couple of weeks working his way through the inevitable job list before heading over to St Malo on the 17th August for measurement. The boat’s first race will be shortly after, a 1040 mile single-handed event from St Malo. This race counts as the qualifier for the Route de Rhum, which again starts from St Malo on the 29th October.

Sponsored by the Benton Property Group to highlight their major commercial and retail Bolands Mill development in the Dublin docklands, the yacht will represent its sponsor at the construction industry’s Little Britain Cup before heading to Ireland to fulfill further sponsor commitments there. Bolands Mill also carries on its side the logos of two major charities: The Irish Cancer Society and Orchid.
The Irish Cancer Society is the national cancer care charity dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and to improving the lives of those living with it. Orchid is the first registered charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to fund research into the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of male cancers
