Spirit of Adventure Update |

Liz was responsible for the 3D design of Spirit of Adventure and was sent from the UK early on in this project to work with Tim Sadler in New Zealand. She has seen the yacht develop from a concept, through design, construction and builders trials. She is now preparing to sail with the owner on this luxury cruising yacht's maiden ocean passage to Rarotonga and Tahiti. Her first report comes from the dockside in Auckland just before departure.
"The Viaduct Basin in the centre of Auckland, New Zealand may no longer be buzzing with a multitude of America’s Cup syndicates, but the old Alinghi base is still a hive of activity for yachts large and small.
In keeping with the neighbours, the new Owen Clarke 65, Spirit of Adventure is alive with the comings and goings of getting a yacht ready for its first ocean voyage. The owner has taken up residence on board, a sure-fire way to discover all the things that are left to sort out. Spares are being packed, systems run regularly and the work-list is getting shorter by the day.
Provisioning for the trip was started last week and will all be completed ready for departure. After a few final checks on the electrical system and the first service on the engine, we will be applying for customs clearance and heading north to the warmer weather this week." |
