Owen Clarke Design (OC) yacht designers created this custom carbon / foam composite short-handed design for a Scandinavian client looking for an adventure sailing yacht. His requirements are: “A lifting keel, performance blue water cruising sailboat for long distance, short-handed cruising adventures with the family.” The client’s brief drew on Spirit of Adventure, a yacht that he had followed during its build and subsequent early history on the water. The project began initially under a short-term contract with OC consulting for this experienced yachtsman and engineer, helping him to develop a working concept design based around his ideas and needs.

Owen Clarke Design (OC) yacht designers created this custom carbon / foam composite short-handed design for a Scandinavian client looking for a fast adventure sailing yacht. His brief was that he wanted: “A lifting keel, performance blue water cruising sailboat for long distance, short-handed cruising adventures with the family.

Limited to an air draft of 30m to berth in his home port, the owner’s requirements centre around a yacht capable of fast trans-oceanic passages that is simple for him and his family to sail and manoeuvre. A lifting keel is essential in order to access some of the intended cruising grounds while at the same time allowing the overall displacement of the yacht to be in line with the target performance requirements. In order to increase the cruising payload and stay within the desired performance parameters the yacht will be constructed of a hybrid of carbon glass composite, with a mixture of Corecell and Divinycell foam core.
