'Longbow' (USA 143) is a 2015, Class 40 racing yacht designed by Owen Clarke Design and built by Carbon Ocean Yacht, with an exceptional budget. Purpose built and optimised for the light to moderate conditions typical of the U.S. East Coast, 'Longbow' has regularly raced in SORC events, both on the Great Lakes and in Florida. She combines refined offshore pedigree with inshore agility, making her exceptionally well suited to competitive American racing programmes.
Constructed to class rules, the hull was vacuum formed in female moulds of foam/glass and epoxy, whilst the deck mould was CNC machined. 'Longbow' features a powerful masthead rig and a versatile hybrid hull engineered for speed across a wide range of conditions. Her pronounced aft chines reduce wetted surface area, delivering efficient performance at low to moderate heel angles, a decisive advantage in lighter air. Twin kick-up rudders, a carbon bowsprit, and six water ballast tanks (three per side) provide control and stability when pressed offshore. Designed and built with two keel positions and eventually with two keels to allow further optimisation for light air versus moderate courses.
An independent under-deck headsail sheeting system allows rapid, precise trimming, a major asset in tactical inshore regattas. The ergonomic cockpit is optimized for double-handed competition, offering clean layouts and efficient sail handling at speed.
Professionally maintained with no expense spared, 'Longbow' represents a turnkey opportunity for an owner seeking a competitive platform for U.S. offshore classics, coastal series, or double-handed circuits. She is primed to perform at the highest level.
