'Halycon of Eyemouth' is a beautiful and rugged ketch rig wooden motor sailing yacht, designed by James Evans. The design was inspired by the Scottish fishing boats which were built to be strong, powerful and seaworthy vessels capable of working in the North Sea and North Atlantic all year round
.
Her commissioning owner cruised her around the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal, before she was sold and spent the next 10 years cruising the Baltic Sea, covering many miles. Under further ownership she was based in Falmouth, undertaking a meticulous refit of the hull, rig and systems before being sold to the present owner in 2016 who then put the boat through a no expense spared period of work, upgrading every aspect and bringing her up to the standards required for the MCA code of Practice Category 1.
This motorsailer is fully equipped and absolutely ready to go bluewater cruising yacht with a huge internal volume allowing her owners to go comfortably and securely anywhere in the world whether it be crossing oceans or extended cruising in high latitudes. A true little ship.
Substantially built of Iroko carvel planking fastened to oak frames with galvanised fastenings and casover sheathed below the waterline from new. The deck is cascover sheathed marine plywood and her painted wheelhouse and coach roof superstructure are constructed of solid iroko and marine plywood.
The interior is laid out with an owners' suite aft with a large double and single berth, ensuite heads and a shower stall, with access to the immaculately kept main machinery space under the capacious wheelhouse. The wheelhouse enables excellent panoramic views from the helm and 'L' shaped bench sofa seating, as well as access to the main working exterior deck and forward and aft accommodation spaces.
The fully equipped galley includes a new gas hob, oven, refrigeration and leads to the main spacious saloon area with both lounging and dining settees, pilot berth and bulkhead mounted heater. Further forward the second heads and shower is installed and beyond is the recently reconfigured twin berth fore cabin with all new mattresses and soft furnishings. On deck the gaff ketch rig is easily managed and benefits from recent new standing and running rigging, sails in as new condition, recent new winches and headsail furling.
