A third generation Owen Clarke Class 40 design, this yacht was built in the UK by the same expert team responsible for the construction of Volvo 70s and Americas Cup Catamarans. The design began with a clean sheet of paper and incorporated modifications made to the Class 40 rules in 2008. It was without doubt the most technically advanced Class 40 yacht created at that time. The result of a collaboration by Owen Clarke Design and Americas Cup/Team New Zealand designer Clay Oliver. In addition, OCD utilised the talents of French hydrodynamicist and BMW/Oracle design team member, Michel Kermarec for the evolution of the appendages. Chartered to Jörg Reichers for two years she was sold on to her next custodian who carried out a comprehensive refit programme that saw the boat sport a new Axxon carbon rig and rigging, new sails and a general lightening of the yacht that culminated in achieving the class rules for minimum overall weight and maximum mast righting limiter weight.

As a vintage category Class 40, these boats get their own ranking as well as overall scores within Class 40 events, allowing for some competitive racing. In Europe these boats are still being raced against the best of the Class 40 fleet and can perform well. With many more miles of performance racing, French Pineapple is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner who may wish to invest in some re-fit work to maintain and improve performance.
