Highland Fling XI represents the epitome of style, performance and engineering excellence. With a mixture of blue-clear over black carbon weave, the hull shines from shades of sapphire to ebony. The elegantly understated coach house, gleams in shimmering silver and contrasts with the natural honey tones of her expansive teak laid deck. The carbon winches, hidden tracks and concealed deck lines leave no distractions to the eyes. The Southern Spars Carbon mast reaches skyward at 131’ high, supported on the sparest of Carbon standing rigging and her deep section carbon boom accommodates a loose footed High aspect ratio mainsail.

When first conceived and built Highland Fling XI was billed as a ‘Wally’ but still retains the lightness of touch of the Reichel/Pugh Design Studio. With oversight on the part of Wally in order to insure Wally's standards and specifications, Highland Fling XI garnered the "Wally Class" rating and allowed competition with like-categorized yachts. Now performing as a Maxi but still of the Wally heritage this is truly an impressive vessel for the regatta circuit.

Scotsman Lord Irvine Laidlaw has owned boats which have competed in the Wally Class before, but this was his first Reichel/Pugh design and made this choice based on the design offices experience with the likes of Alfa Romeo, Wild Oates and Morning Glory. When launched Highland Fling XI was described as "as a total breakthrough," where every piece of equipment was scrutinized for its weight-to-strength ratio, drag reduction, and aesthetics. At the 2014 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup: Classico Costa Smeralda - Lord Laidlaw’s R/P 82’ Highland Fling was unmatched for speed all week, scoring 5 straight wins in the Racing Maxi Class. Irvine Laidlaw was all smiles helming, especially reaching across the top La Maddelena, ‘Fling was surfing along at over 20 knots. When it blows like this, there is no place in the world that can match it.”
