As Philippe Kahn's Pegasus she has won consecutively two double-handed Transpacs and two Pacific Cup Races. In the 2008 edition of the 2008 Pacific Cup Pegasus was the first overall yacht to finish beating TP52,s and Santa Cruz 70s, won the event on corrected time and set a new San-Francisco to Hawaii double-handed record. The following year, Philippe Kahn and Mark Christensen beat the existing double-handed Transpacific Record by more than two days. In 2012 the yacht was campaigned as Truth, by former Class 40 sailor Alex Mehran, when he smashed the solo Transpac record, beating the Open 60 Wild Things time by nearly two and a half days.

Pegasus

Open 50

After purchase from her original owner Pegasus was refitted and repainted at Goetz Marine in 2007 prior to the Transpac Race. During the winter 2007/2008 the yacht was modified in conjunction with her designers and fitted with a 3 metre bowsprit, new keel and a taller PBO rigged Hall Spars mast. Under new ownership she was brought to the UK in the spring of 2015 and underwent a refit which included essential PBO rigging updates. Between the 2015-2017 the boat has been dry sailed from Hamble Yaht Servies and in preparation for 2018 the remaining composite cables are being replaced in discussion with Future Fibres to bring the entire rigging spec. up to date.

Provisional details

Engine: Yanmar 3GM, 27 hp saildrive
Electronics: Brookes and Gatehouse, updated in 2009 with latest high performance pilot system
Electrics: Truth was almost completely re-wired when sailed as Pegasus, new systems professionally installed. The yacht was then re-fitted a small air conditioning unit and so the boat has six big house batteries. A Vendee boat survives with four, so depending on the racing one is  doing there's some weight saving possible. There are no solar panels on the deck any longer and all the power is generated from a large alternator custom mounted onto the front of the engine. The engine's original alternator remains on the engine and is wired into the engine start battery. Engine start and house are isolated from one another but there's an cross-over switch that can link the two banks in case of a problem in either bank.

Sails: Wardrobe continually updated since 2008. Existing sail wardrobe designed and built by North Sails France, fore and aft sails3DL. Most recently added a new North 3DL mainsail and Cuben fibre A3 for 2012. The two new 2012 sails have hardly done any miles and the mainsail being double Taffeta should happily do 30,000 miles + as a race sail. All North Sails are by Bruno Dubois and the North loft in France, not North US. So, they're fully detailed as if a from an Open 60. The North 2008 onwards sails are for the taller Hall Spars rig designed for theTranspac. This has PBO rigging whereas the original shorter rig had Nitronic Vs and Ds, hence with the weight saved we went taller for the same stability, which was the original plan with the boat.Hence, 2007 sails are short hoist, but good for delivery.
