These are the first photos of the 60' aluminium lifting keel blue water cruising yacht Alvorada (OC 188) since her launch last month at KM Yacht Builders in Holland. Her owner required a design that required her to be both a tropical and high latitude trans oceanic sailing explorer yacht. Photographed here in the final fit-out stage she was being visited by Owen Clarke Design as part of a post launch inspection on behalf of the client.

Not sailing yet, but getting close, Allen, Clarke her lead designer is shown standing on the tender deck/’terrace on the sea’ of Owen Clarke’s latest creation. At the dock in Makkum for a 'big sailboat' it was noticeable how she was moving on her lines compared to the yachts around her, as if anxious to get going. Yard sailing trials will be completed by the end of September, prior to the owner taking her for two weeks of sea trials in the Baltic.

At nearly 1,600kg lighter than her target displacement, everyone has done the project proud including engineers Navyk, builders, KM Yacht Builders, Harken (including a pedestal/grinder system), Axxon for a great carbon mast/boom combo and Doyle (Germany) to name but a few. After returning to KM for warranty/rework the yacht will set off when weather permits for Portugal, Spain and a tour of the Atlantic Isles; Madeira, Canaries and the Azores this winter.
