Owen Clarke’s lead designer Allen Clarke and our client had a great couple of days at KM Yachtbuilders in Makkum, Holland. This culminated in the turning of the hull of the OC designed blue water performance cruising yacht currently under construction there. The high winds and rain did not hinder the smooth operation.
These events are always exciting for client, builder, and designer as its generally the first opportunity for all to view what up until this point has largely been a series of 2D and 3D CAD drawings, rendered images and a mass of aluminium components stacked in the boatyard.
OC 188, is an aluminium lifting centreboard sailboat which follows on from ‘Qilak’ the OC high latitude expedition yacht launched, from the same yard, in 2018. OC 188 is designed and built for live aboard cruising with an in-built allowance for future commercially coded (MGN280) charter.
The client required the yacht to have dual capabilities of both tropical and high latitude cruising, easily handled by a crew of two and with the space to comfortably accommodate a further 6 additional guests. For more information go to OC 18M BLUE WATER CRUISER.
