Posted on 9th March 2025

Owen Clarke Design sailor/designer Merfyn Owen kicked off his sailing season this year with 1st place in the ORR – A Division, on the Islands Race off the west coast of the US. This is a 144 mile race from Long Beach, around the Catalina and San Clemente Islands, to San Diego. It’s one of a series of events owners use to prepare their boats and crew for the 2025 Transpac Race in July. Owen is driving and trimming on Favonius 2 (ex Bribon), a TP-52 owned/skippered by Greg Dorn.

In charge of the preparation of the yacht and Boat Captain is Ashley Perrin. Owen and Perrin as well as being married are sailing/racing partners who also won the CCA Royal Cruising Trophy last year for an expedition to Newfoundland, Greenland and Labrador. Meanwhile, OC’s design and engineering contribution to the TP in the run up to the Transpac is a carbon outrigger, for outboard sheeting of a new sail for the inventory; a reaching J0.
