KM Yachtbuilders proudly announced the official launch of the Owen Clarke OC 188, a state-of-the-art 60-foot cruising yacht, during an elegant ceremony at their shipyard in Makkum. The vessel, named Alvorada—meaning “dawn” in Portuguese—marks a new chapter in performance bluewater sailing. Crafted for long-distance voyaging, the OC 188 blends the robust ocean pedigree of Owen Clarke Design with KM's renowned aluminium yacht building expertise, promising both endurance and elegance on the open sea.

The naming of Alvorada reflects the owner's vision of renewal and discovery, a fitting tribute to a yacht designed to chase horizons. With her lifting keel, twin rudders, and a powerful sail plan optimized for shorthanded sailing, Alvorada is engineered to traverse high latitudes and tropical waters alike. Her sleek lines and carefully considered interior layout underscore a philosophy of purposeful design—every detail serving form and function for life aboard.

“We're thrilled to see Alvorada set sail,” said Eeuwe Kooi, Managing Director of KM Yachtbuilders. “This launch represents a collaboration of craftsmanship and innovation, tailored to an owner’s dream of freedom under sail.” With Alvorada, both builder and designer reaffirm their commitment to shaping yachts that are as adventurous as the people who helm them.

Alvorada is nearing the completion of her fit out and will hit the water for sea trials this Summer before sailing south towards Portugal and the Atlantic Isles of Madeira and the Azores.
